Gas Flow in Cooling Tower at Tuban Cement Works

The second largest cement plant in the world was confirming that their system would cope with the projected increase in air volume. EnviroCare International had a contract to upgrade the cooling system in the gas conditioning towers of the Semen Gresik cement plant.

As part of the design and installation process Semen Gresik requested that field measurements be taken to verify the calculated physometrics for the gas conditioning tower. In particular verification was sought for the gas flow and temperature regimes at the spray lance level of the tower and also the overall gas flow volume through the tower.

Audit of Gravinore Gas Flow in Slag Unit

This project involved the on-site determination of the flow, pressure, temperature and chemical analysis of the fume gases passing from the cast floor to the bag house during the slag tapping phase. Analysis of the data was then undertaken.

NSW Land and Water Conservation

Investigation of Corrosion of Spillway Ropes

Pacific Testing conducted a thorough on-site investigation into the possibility of stray currents from a DC power station had caused the corrosion of flood gate spillway ropes at two dams in northern NSW.

The project involved the use of electric probes to monitor ground currents when the generators were in use and not running. Observations of pitted ropes confirmed that the corrosion was caused by microbiological influence rather than stray currents.

Tomago Aluminium Smelter

Corrosion Monitoring

This Aluminium smelter upgraded capacity by 10 % resulting in an increase in hot air flow to the bag filter house necessitating the installation of cooling lances. There was some concern that the introduction of water into the duct might initiate corrosion of the pipe-work.

A survey of the existing steel thickness was undertaken prior to the installation of a cooling system and repeated several months later. Additionally, tests were carried out of the filter bag material to evaluate its resistance to short periods of exposure to increased temperatures.

Industrial Galvanizers

Olympic Stadium Sydney

An on-site survey was undertaken of the zinc coating thickness of the galvanized structural beams of the main stadium at Sydney – Olympic Park. There was some concern that the discoloration may have been caused by insufficient galvanising.

Fleetfit

Evaluation of Atmospheric Corrosivity

Concern was expressed regarding the possible effect of airborne particulates on the motor vehicles stored on the premises. An on-site visit determined the directionality of effects of corrosion and probability of local industries influencing degradation of vehicular paints.

Pacific Dreams

Air Flow Monitoring

An air velocity survey was undertaken in this surfboard manufacturing facility to determine the efficacy of its vapour extraction system and compliance with relevant health and safety obligations.
